Day one of the Harmony and Compassion conference focused on the role of music in Buddhist society, past and present. How is music used in ceremonial rituals, what is the place of music in the temple, and how do the many varied Buddhist communities in Asia incorporate musical rituals into the culture?

The opening event of the conference featured four speakers, listed below, via Zoom Webinar. After a break, the conference continued with a video premiere of a sampling of ceremonial musical offerings.
