Prospective students of Bard’s innovative degree programs in Chinese music will have the opportunity to audition with Bard Conservatory Director Frank Corliss, US-China Music Institute Director Jindong Cai, and Bard’s East Asia Representative Shawn Moore ‘11 during a series of virtual and live auditions from November 13 to December 5, 2021, for admission in Fall 2022. These auditions will serve as the pre-screening round of auditions. Following a successful pre-screening audition, applicants will be invited to complete an application.

For the Undergraduate Double Degree, all instruments, please prepare one traditional piece and one contemporary piece for your audition. We are actively recruiting students of erhu, guzheng, sheng, pipa, dizi, Chinese percussion, yangqin and ruan. Students of other instruments may apply for special consideration.
For the Master of Arts in Chinese Music and Culture, performance concentration, please prepare one Chinese piece (traditional or contemporary) of approximately 10 minutes duration. Other pre-screening materials will be collected after the audition.
For non-performance concentrations (composition, musicology), pre-screening materials will be requested after you submit the audition registration.
